While there still is no presence of EAB in Nebraska, The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has recently expanded the EAB quarantine to include all counties in Iowa. Specifically, the interstate movement of EAB-host wood and wood products from Iowa is regulated, including firewood of all hardwood species, nursery stock, green lumber, waste, compost, and chips of ash species. Officials in Iowa are reporting that the EAB has now been identified in the city of Creston, bringing the total number of Iowa counties reporting a positive identification to five. While it appears EAB is moving closer to Nebraska, customers should be reminded that treatment is available once it is positively identified here. Colorado officials confirmed last week the presence of an emerald ash borer infestation in Boulder. This is highly significant as the area is directly in the middle of the largest contiguously growing population of ash trees in the state. Also significant is the fact that the use of any pesticides, in particular the neoncoinoids, is a “hot button” for Colorado’s environmentally conscious residents.
